JGNAT

JGNAT is an Ada 95 compiler and toolchain that targets the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Developed by Ada Core Technologies (now AdaCore), it translates Ada source code into Java bytecode, producing classes that run on standard JVMs. JGNAT enables mixed-language development by allowing Ada code to call Java libraries and interoperate with Java applications, providing access to the broader Java ecosystem while using Ada’s strong typing and reliability.

Built on the GNAT technology, JGNAT includes a JVM-based Ada runtime that leverages the JVM’s memory management and portability. Originally released in the late 1990s/early 2000s, it was intended for cross-platform deployment, including applets and server-side applications. JGNAT is a historical product and is no longer actively maintained.
